Ruby Tuesday! Let's Play Ball!

Ruby loves to play ball. What dog doesn't? The game of chase and catch the ball is one of her favorite parts of her day, beside chasing, pouncing and pummeling any cat that happens to be within her reach or barking at the horses so they will move, or trying to grab the broom I am using to sweep the barn aisle with.

I've never seen a dog run so fast and be so intense about catching that flying and rolling ball. It's certainly fun for not only her but us humans as well. We get such a charge out of her silliness. Let's take a look at Ruby's favorite sport and see her in action.

The ball has been thrown and zooommm, like a race car there she goes, ears flat back for more aerodynamics. So much speed here, almost a blur. She looks similiar to a bunny doesn't she? Thus the bunny butt term she's known for. You can almost hear those gears shifting into high speed.

Oooohhh, here we are for the kill, I mean catch. Will you look at that jaw span? Her mouth has opened about as wide and round as that ball. I'm so glad that ball is not me!

How about a little pan and zoom of that shot. What a wild little dog she is. Note the eyes bulging from her head. Quite scary!

She's made the catch and runs away with her steal!

Here she comes ready for another throw. What a good girl!
Okay you dirty little dog, drop that slimy, tattered, destroyed ball and let me throw it again.

Ruby, you are supposed to bring it back to me and drop it at my feet. She has a little problem with that part and has pretty much trained me to walk over, try and get the ball back from her and then throw it.
"Are you going to throw my ball again for the 13th time or stand there and keep clicking that thing at me that is covering your face? What are you laughing at?"

"Well then, I'll just go after this ball myself."
Well look at that, another tattered, destroyed, deflated remains of a ball.

"If you aren't going to throw it, I'll go chase that cat over there trying to sneak back into the barn."

There is something so similiar about all of these pictures. I've noticed that just about every one of her balls is not really a ball anymore. I do know that this ball Ruby is trying to grab was recently destroyed by Bella, my parents Saluki/Great Pyrenese/Golden Retriever/Collie/Husky watcha-ma-call-it mix breed dog.

Ruby still loves to attack it though!

"Kitty-cat, your time is coming! I'm on constant sneaky cat alert!"

Sometimes, Ruby isn't as quick and coordinated as she would like to be. She is a show off most of the time and 97% of the time will grab that ball with massive forces of her teeth and jaw, but the other 3%, she well, misses.

She likes to get going so fast that, sometimes she just can't slow down in time to pick up her ball. And so this happens. Whoa, we forgot the brakes on that one Ruby.

"Ha-ha-ha-ha, you didn't see that did you? Whew, I must be getting tired."

" Can we possibly try that one again? Me short little legs got in the way of each other."
Yes, those short little legs surely mistake many for what she may be lacking in height, but they sure don't slow her down. Ruby is her name and chasing balls is her game.

Amy, those pictures are fabulous. Ruby looks positively vicious.

Now you need some shots of her going after those stupid cows.

Amazing that she can run so fast with those little legs of hers!
