Music to My Ears

Recently I have had numerous responses and interest in my Playlist selection. I love music plain and simple. My tastes in music ranges from rock, pop, country, folk, rap, and whatever tickles my fancy and makes me want to sing along. And I hate to admit it, but I am a closet singer too. I love to sing, especially while driving. I have no idea how I sound, but I love to sing along with the likes of many female singers but also with the guys like Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty or please don't laugh, but Kid Rock and his "Sweet Old Alabama" remake, "All Summer Long". Songs that just pull you in and make you sing along, yeah that is me. Yooper gives me funny looks when I jam to Gwen Stefani or Usher. It's true. About the funny looks too.

Many of my songs are ones I've found through listening to the radio of course or from various CDs I've downloaded from Wallyworld but many of those tunes you hear are actually from the first two seasons of Grey's Anatomy. Did you recognize any of those songs? Did MerDer come to mind when you heard Jem's "Flying High" or Joe Purdy's "The City" or how about Mat Kearney's "All I Need"?

I would hear these songs while watching an episode and think how much I loved that song and I would go online and search long and hard on Itunes or Walmart Downloads. Rosie Thomas's "Since You've Been Around" is a true MerDer song and I have yet to find it on Playlist.com. If you do a search on YouTube, you'll hear it and see clips from Grey's Anatomy. That song tugs at your heart. It's so great.

Not only do these melodies get mixed into an episode of Greys', but they also have such good meanings and flow together so well. That is why I have chosen them to be a part of my blog and share them with others.

The song by Matt Nathanson, "Come on, Get Higher", grabs at my heart everytime I hear it. I first remember that song from earlier this summer and just fell in love with it. That song gave more meaning to me, when Yooper left me for Ireland for 10 days while traversing the countryside with his mom and aunt. Then I watched P.S. I love you, which was partially shot in Ireland, and made me miss him more. The movie and then that song, just hit me, and made me cry. Okay, call me pathetic, sappy, and meek. I'm just a die hard romantic I guess.

What about those songs by Jordan Sparks or Alicia Keys? How can you not like them. They have great beat, great meaning and just make you want to sing and swing your hiney along.

I used to be all country and my sister asks me whenever I see her, if I still listen to country. I always tell her no, but occasionally I lie and rattle off some songs I listen to. But I do have a few saved that I do like. I've grown to adore Sugarland, and Josh Turner's voice makes me tingle a bit, then I can always go back to the days of John Berry, Colin Raye, and Vince Gill and how those songs bring me back in time. I've strayed away from country within the past couple years mostly because country songs seemed to have lost me in its constant twang and how one song seemed to sound like another. Call me picky, but I crossed over to many different types of music these past years, sometimes I'm not even sure what type I like best!

I guess I could best describe my choices in music very diverse. Songs and music that accompany it has to have a meaning and of course a great sound to make it complete. Music is very similiar to taking pictures. The picture has to offer a subject, a meaning and tell a story. When I hear music I hear a story and almost like a music video will form. Just like taking pictures, a story has to be told as to why it was photographed. What do you see when you see the pictures above? A bunch of boring, red maple tree leaves taken by an amaturish, wanna-be-better at taking photographs photographer? Or do you see seasons changing, reminding you that cooler weather is on its way, followed by upcoming favorite holidays? Okay, please don't answer that first question.
That is how music is for me. Has a meaning, a hidden message somewhat, tells a story and gives an incredible melody to go along with it. Doesn't get much better than that!
So what music "moves" you?

I love music I can dance to. In fact it would be easier to explain what I don't like. I don't like angry "hate rock" and hmm? Yeah, that's about it. I love the music from Grey's Anatomy as well. In my car I like to listen to hip-hop. That's probably my fave. Oh, and congratulations. My husband and I just celebrated our 13th as well.

Having a kid in college who loves all kinds of music has broadened my horizons! Have you seen Once? Now there's an Irish movie with fantastic music. Go to pandora.com and type Glen Hansard into the playlist. I love Pandora!

I love all kinds of music but folk, pop country, instrumental (especially Celtic-love those fiddles), pop rock....it has to have beat and it has to touch me in some way.

Well I saw Maple leaves photographed beautifully!
You have different music than I normally listen to! Maybe thats why I like it?
I am old so I listen to Bee Gees, Beach Boys, Mamas and Papas and lots of one hit wonders from the 50's and the 60's. AND yes I sing but only in the car by myself! Some songs as just to hard to resist! :)
