Sky Watch Friday ~ Moonset ~

I haven't participated in Sky Watch Friday in a few weeks and have missed sharing pictures of skies I see everyday. There have been some awesome sunrises and sunsets, tossed in here and there in between these past few weeks of lion like weather we have experienced. With the full moon rising, I finally managed to drag myself and my faithful Nikon out and about to capture the moon setting this morning. And I do mean drag, because it was 6 below zero this morning. I'm about sick of that. Nothing worse than trying to compose a picture, hold you and your camera still, wipe your dripping nose, focus, adjust settings with bare hands(because big ski gloves and cameras don't mix) and take a decent shot in miserable cold temps. So why do I put myself through such misery when I could be inside my home, warm and cozy?

So I can capture pictures like this! Oh, yeah, and that photographic addiction that won't go away. Not that I want it to or anything.....it possesses me.

Sorry, I just can't resist moments like this. The moon and I have become friends, well sort of. We have a love/hate relationship going on. I still cringe when thinking of trying to shoot the moon at nighttime. Mornings like this shot, are much easier for me to expose for without the mess I make trying to shoot at night. Besides, I like to be inside my house when it is dark because I'm afraid the boogeyman might come and steal my camera.
Not to mention that big ole coyote I saw this morning sitting not 200 feet from our barns. Yes, those hairy beasts give me goosebumps. I made a cat count this morning while in my horse barn and all 6 big, fat and a month's-supply-of-food-for-one-coyote were all in sight.

I changed the color shot I did above to black and white and I'm not sure if I am all too crazy about it. It changes things obviously, gives a different perspective and maybe just too bland, but I thought I would try it. Or perhaps it's the Friday the 13th thing that makes me change it up a bit. Or down. However you want to look at it.

What do you think? Yay or neigh?

So mouse click on over to Sky Watch Friday and visit skies other bloggers have captured!

Happy Friday!

Both good but I do like the colors in the first shot. Your picture gives me hope that some night, I'm gonna take the moon's photo!

Beautiful photos. Glad to hear the cat population is the same.

I too like the shot with the red sky, a sign that another day is arising, a new day of hope and love.

I was up at 4 am looking at the moon thinking that you would be taking pictures, and you were !! You are very brave to face the frigidness but oh so worth it as it is a WONDERFUL photo !!!!!

I love both of these; although when I look at the color shot, it does kind of cast a spell over me. Simply lovely...Enjoy SWF!

Those cooooold mornings just bring out the best in the moon. Great shots!!! Sounds like you live in a wonderful nature filled place. Enjoy and keep warm. Thanks for sharing this week.

The Retired One  – (March 13, 2009 at 11:07 AM)

I loved them both, but I think my favorite is the black and white one.
You give me incentive to get off my behind and get out there earlier in the morn and take some shots, myself.

I have a pond not far from where I live that gets a mist every spring morning when the air is cold and the pond is warm...but I have to wait for the ice to melt and for it to get warmer outside for me to go get some photos of it. But it is a goal of mine.

I think I prefer the color version. I love mornings like that. So quiet and peaceful. Really beautiful photo.

Ashley  – (March 13, 2009 at 1:11 PM)

I would have to say the B&W version. But I am always partial to B&W.

Whoah! Best moonshot I've seen in a long time. You getting cold was absolutely worth it. Awesome!

Have a nice weekend!

They are both nice but I like the first one best. The colors are great!

I have missed participating in SWF so much! I'm hoping things will settle down soon so that I can start TAKING PHOTOS again. I miss it...

Your photos are gorgeous. The colors in that first one are amazing!

Cathy Clementz  – (March 13, 2009 at 3:27 PM)

That is a beautiful shot. I envy you being able to get outside and take it. I had to view the moon from the comfort of my bedroom.

Thanks for sharing it!

I like both but I think the color is my favorite. I just love how the colors are there but subdued - really cool!

Glad all of the cats were present and accounted for.

Have a great weekend, Amy!

Ah..that first one was worth freezing your butt off for! I just gazed out, and thought..should I..no it was too cold! :)

This DVM's Wife's Life  – (March 13, 2009 at 6:15 PM)

I know, the cold does strange things to you sometimes. I am thinking I am becoming immune to it. 40 degrees, which is forecasted for the next few days will feel so warm!

Bryan  – (March 13, 2009 at 6:20 PM)

I prefer the color shot as well. It conveys more feeling and tells us a little more about the photo.

Slave Driver  – (March 13, 2009 at 7:42 PM)

The color shot is very warm and the eye is drawn to the moon. In the B&W shot your eye is drawn to the topline of the trees. It's stark, which is not a bad thing.

I actually prefer the B&W but I have a habbit of taking pictures of dead trees because I like the outline.

Very nicely done.

From my point of view, this was worth the trouble you took. What wonderful photos! I especially like the coloured one although the second version has a lovely silvery cast to it. Have a wonderful weekend!

I love the color shot. Just beautiful

Michele  – (March 14, 2009 at 9:30 PM)

Both are quite beautiful and the more I study them, the more I'm drawn towards the B & W version.
I hope you are enjoying your weekend!

Hugs♥
