I'm A Little Nervous About Sharing These..........

I don't like to see pictures of myself because I usually have a silly expression on my face or I look like an old hag. I regress though. I decided I would actually like some pictures of me with my horses. I only have a few here and there someone or another took along the way at a horse show or a quick snapshot my mom took of me with the kids. Which I love having pictures of me with my kids, but again, the feeling of "I'm looking old with every day that passes by."

I'm not sure why I decided to have these pictures taken of me. Perhaps I wanted to see what I actually look like other than what I see in a mirror everyday as I apply my Revlon foundation that is supposed to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Have you ever noticed how different you look once you go outside after having put on makeup under a bathroom light?
The sunshine can do veeeeellly, veeellllyyyy bad things to the final appearance of that mastered make-up job.

Me with my old mare Deb surrounded by her pasture mates and boys, Three and Pete.

I think I really wanted some pictures taken of me with my old, first horse who is now 34 1/2 years young. I have some of her and I taken over 10 years ago when we were at the end of her horse showing career. And before that my mom used to be photo happy like me and take hundreds of pictures of us. They are all tucked away in a photo album now. Remember photo albums? Ha! My photo album is now called a computer. I haven't filled an album in a long time. Funny how that works with the digital age here to stay.

Last year I was worried how she would do throughout the winter. She fooled me and came through with flying colors and a shiny hair coat. Cold, long winters can be harsh to an older horse. Think arthritis and digestion problems. I can relate.......I do not do well with cold weather either.
I worry now with winter coming upon us how she will do. But so far she has given me no reason to worry. She keeps going and going.
And did I get any pictures of me with her? Not many as those boys of mine were hogging me the whole time and she wanted nothing to do with them.

I had no idea how these pictures would turn out. I mean, I wasn't sure of the photographer's capabilities. Would this photographer be able to capture some sweet moments with my handsome boys, the other men in my life? So needless to say I was a bit nervous going into this photoshoot. At least I felt somewhat better I had actually done something with my hair in the morning other than washing and walking out the door to air dry it. Think blow dryer, straightening iron and actually using hair spray. I know. I lead a sheltered life.

So I sighed, shook my head and handed over my big ole' camera to my 8 year old daughter and told her to start pushing the shutter button.

These are great! Well done 8-year-old daughter! I think we show a different side of ourselves when we are with our horses - a side that we like better than the one in the mirror for sure.

You look beautiful, Amy. And I'm not saying that because you're my sister. Thank you for sharing these. I miss seeing you. xxxooo.

Hag? *looks around in confusion*

Amy you are beautiful, and I love your ponies.....(they are all ponies to me). My mare is young, only 6 so I hope we have a long time together too.

Maddy is following very well in a tremendous photographer's footsteps.... You could NEVER look like a hag even if you tried!!!!

Beautiful photographs, Maddy. I am certain your mom is very proud of you! You start snapping pictures of something every day and by the time you reach high school, you will already be a pro!

Those are very beautiful, and so much more special because your daughter took them (and not a wrinkle or fine line in sight)!!

Thank you!
A little Photoshop goes a long way I suppose. Okay so just a little. I can't say much for those dirty, muddy horses of mine. Our weather explained.

Fantastic pics, you look beautiful! Your daughter also has some true talent.

You are the best example I've ever seen or heard, of not seeing yourself the same way the world sees you. You are beautiful. So self effacing, and so beautiful. Just my humble opinion. Don't worry though, I'm not hitting on you. :) That's just not how I roll.

I think she is a natural! What great shots - she really captured the moment.

I need to do this, too. I take the pictures - the ones of me are what people send me. Usually I am either wearing a helmet or have helmet hair.

Amy, How wonderful to have Mini me take some photos! ( She is good!!) You look just beautiful, hair all done and all! I love the ones with your sweet Deb..she is one great horse. I know how special she is to you..I hope the winter is gentle for her. Last year the photos of Sweet Deb and Mini Me and the rag braids were some of my favorites, pure perfection in some powerful photos:)

Beautiful pictures that you'll undoubtedly treasure someday. Remember...we all get older. It's something to be grateful for, not be ashamed of.

Not that we don't love bunny butts, but it's great seeing you! :)

These really are nice. I hate being in front of the camera - I always look awkward or goofy. You look great and these pictures will be cherished by your family for generations to come.

I'm glad you posted these.

I know what whatcha mean, I'm always the one behind the camera, never in front of it. Funny thing, my 13 year old daughter told me something I tell her all the time, but harder to hear when it comes back to haunt ya,"Beauty comes from within." She told me that she likes to take pix of me because someday she will look back and remember what we were doing...Memories. That's really what pix are, capturing a moment in time. That helps me to not hate pix of myself. Still don't love them, just maybe not hate them so bad:)You look great, and made awesome memories with your photographer:)

This post is very ironic. I think this means we really must get together and have a picture taking day. Of everything. Trees, grass, all of it. You look beautiful and these pictures say so much. What memories. Isn't it amazing how much peace can come from standing out in the pasture with your arms draped around their necks.

Thought the third was going to be my favorite and then I saw the last one! Awesome. I would say your daughter definitely has some talent. I am some what of a photographer and always get nervous when I have to be in front of the camera instead of behind it.

My daughter says she wants a camera like mine for Christmas..........I wonder if Santa would bring me that d700 I've been dreaming about. I've been a good girl this year Santa, honest.
So I told my daughter to keep dreaming............

The photos are beautiful! Good for your daughter. And you are too. Funny how we so often see the wrinkles and shadows, the grey hairs, while those who love us see the beauty of our smiles and the light we carry in our eyes. Thanks for sharing a glimpse of you with your horses.

These are great! Why didn't I think of asking an 8-yr old photographer to take pics with my horses?? We are our own worst critics, aren't we. Jules steered me on to your blog. You girls are both great writers!

You are beautiful. I can't believe you don't see yourself the way we see you.
I don't care if you wait 50 years and post more photos of yourself, you will still be beautiful.
It is your heart that has the beauty.
Don't be so worried about its package.

Your daughter did a GREAT job on the photos, I see she has gotten some of her mom's talent!!
