Ruby has been a part of my life since March of 2006 when I found her as a four month old puppy for sale with her littermates at a horse event I was attending. I had been wanting a Corgi dog for quite some time and seeing her amongst her brothers and sisters made me want one even more.
It was absolutely a no-brainer idea to buy her. It seemed the perfect time. And when I held her and she buried her fox-like face into my neck and hair I was smitten. I bought her on the spot. Drove the nearly 4 hours home with her in my truck, her proving to be an awesome traveler. She was mine. My first real puppy to call my own.
Ruby fit in with our family perfectly. Yooper, while not real happy with my decision to buy a puppy unannounced and cleared with him, couldn't get past her cuteness without smiling. And our kids? Well, instant puppy love.
Yooper even taught her some tricks. This one above she is famous for. It is one of her many gifts and talents that showcase her splendid personality. She is just that cool of a dog.
Although neurotic in many ways, it is the Corgi breed you either love and live with or not. I chose to love and be fascinated by her on a daily basis.
She can be so many dogs in one little body. Smart for one. Fast, as fast as her short little legs will carry her. Brave. So brave in fact, chasing after and biting the heels of cattle she shows no hesitation. Funny. Gosh she is funny not to mention her cuteness abound. To me she is perfection.
I really could not ask for a nicer dog to have around. She loves her kids. From day one she has always been gentle, playful and loveable to them. Not to mention a great friend to nap with.
When Hope came along, she was ready to have a buddy to play with. They are most certainly good pals however also known as partners in crime. Thelma and Louise of dogs. My little misfits.
When I reflect back on the past five years she has been in my life I realize how lucky I am to have this dog in my life. How much joy and laughter she has brought to me and my family. Except, sadly, how quickly time with her has gone by!
So I enjoy each and every day with her and be thankful for the joy she brings to me.
And try to whisk away my cravings for another Corgi puppy to enter my life.

I'm the last person to try to dissuade from those cravings. I am mush when it comes to the canine variety. Your Ruby is beautiful - and it is truly amazing how we can overlook their quirks that can drive us nuts.
Yes, their time with us does go by quickly - I see that every day with Freckles who is now 13 and I recall all of the damage he caused in my household in his early years. He now just sleeps most of the day away.... I for one will always have a dog (probably two) in my life as long as I am able to adequately care for them.
Ruby is a sweetheart and so fun to watch her run with her short little legs.
Oh come on, you need another puppy in your life?! As if you don't have enough to do, right?
ha ha ha..
Hope all is well with you.
Your posts featuring your darling Ruby are what drew me to your blog initially. We lost out Maggie, a corgie mix extraordinaire, in November...we miss her every day. I also have an aging Heeler...with a personality similar to your Hope. I look forward to the posts about your beautiful girls. I love their smiling faces.
Yes, Ruby is what drew me to your posts too! My little Miley, soon to be a 3-year-old looks justlike her! I love the corgi personality and they will always be my dog of choice from here on out. Smart, brave, loving, and sassy.
I completely understand this kind of puppy love. Enjoy each moment!
Oh Ruby!!!!! My favorite little Corgi ever.
I love Ruby Tuesdays..I am one of Rubys biggest fans..she is a doll..and I can understand how much she makes you smile..she makes me smile too! Thanks for sharing her:)
We have had discussions about your Ruby. I think she's a fine little dog.
Puppy fever is flaring here also as my older dogs age and Conner turns 5. I'm .seriously. considering a little girl next summer.
Oh sweet Ruby! I've missed seeing her mug on here every Tuesday! I thought of you recently when my mom brought home a Corgi pup. A family was selling them at a rodeo and he was the last one left. My mom couldn't pass him up. I hope he'll fill her life with as much joy as Ruby has filled yours.
Ah- what a lovely blog! Such gorgeous shots of Ruby!
I am so glad I found your blog. I love the photos of Ruby! She is a doll but of course, I love anything animal! I firmly believe you need at least 2 of everything(2 fish, 2 dogs, 2 cats, etc.)! I just got a puppy about 4 months ago. We have an old Labrador who slept all day and seemed somewhat lifeless but our puppy had turned that around and restored some youth into our old girl. It is amazing and wonderful to watch. Anyway, I will be back for more. :)
